Scot Filer - Managing Partner
Mr. Filer graduated from the Law and Security Administration Program at Niagara College in Welland, Ontario in 1977. He moved on to a thirty year career in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Mr. Filer spent twenty-six of his thirty years in the area of Major Crime Investigations in British Columbia, the last eleven in the highly specialized area of Behavioural Sciences. Scot concluded his policing career at the rank of Staff Sergeant in charge of operations and investigations for the Behavioural Sciences Group.
Mr. Filer is a very experienced major crime investigator and has led several major investigations and multi-jurisdictional projects. Mr. Filer has received law enforcement certifications in the areas of geographic profiling, threat evaluation and management, tactical human tracking, surveillance and executive protection. He has provided law enforcement services to agencies across Canada, as well in the United States, England, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Belize and South Africa.
He possesses an extensive track record of expertise with more than 1700 criminal cases, including complex, multi-jurisdictional cases involving agencies at the local, provincial, national and international level.Multi-certified in best practice pre-emptive and investigative techniques, Scot is one of the foremost experts globally in the use of geographic profiling methodologies to analyze crime patterns and offender hunting behaviours. Scot has experience building collaborative partnerships and working relationships between the law enforcement community, private sector companies and the academic community. He is an insightful analyst and strategist whose advice has been sought by law enforcement agencies and private sector clients around the world.

Fred Pinnock - Managing Partner
Fred Pinnock graduated with a B.A. in Criminology from Carleton University in 1977. Fred truly enjoyed a high profile and decorated 29 year career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, all of which was spent in British Columbia. As a recognized authority on all methods of high risk investigation, he has led many celebrated, multi-jurisdictional cases dealing with homicide, institutional corruption and organized crime. Known as an innovator, Fred has commanded several investigative units which have developed "cutting edge" techniques in evidence gathering which have been applied not only across Canada, but internationally.
As one of Canada's most experienced undercover agents, Fred utilizes this tradecraft with regularity in directing and managing investigations on behalf of Lions Gate Investigations Group. He oversees the largest inventory of operatives within the field of private investigation in Canada. Fred’s reputation as a creative problem solver has resulted in numerous successes in dealing with business risk. The investigative complexities encountered within the private sector are minimal when compared to the criminal environment of organized crime, ensuring a strong likelihood of resolution in favour of LGIG’s clients.
Having been qualified as an expert witness in organized crime prosecutions on over 200 occasions, Fred is uniquely equipped to train and educate witnesses in the delivery of precise, truthful evidence in preparation for cross examination in both civil and criminal proceedings.

Terry has worked in joint operations with Canada Revenue Agency, Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Administration, and a variety of police departments within and outside the RCMP.
Mike Carston, BA (Hons), MA (Psychology)
Mike Carston began his career as an officer and psychologist in the New Zealand Army. He has particular expertise in behavioural assessment, interviewing techniques and in using psychometric assessments to evaluate personality attributes and motivation. Mr. Carston was the primary psychologist for the New Zealand Army’s leadership assessment centre and an expert advisor for the New Zealand Special Air Service (NZSAS) where he was involved in the selection and training of Special Forces soldiers. Mr. Carston has an extensive background in management consulting having worked in both public and private sector organizations in New Zealand and Canada. He has developed and implemented crisis management policy and training for organizations and is frequently called upon to help problem solve when organizations are faced with difficult human resource situations. A published author in the area of resilience, Mr. Carston is an expert in the analysis of behaviour during high stress situations.
Mr. Carston is a registered psychologist in New Zealand. In 2006, the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (HRINZ) recognized Mr. Carston for his outstanding contribution in the areas of organizational innovation, enhancement, and influence.
Ivan Chu
Ivan is LGIG’s Operations Manager. He brings 33 years of police experience from the RCMP and the New Westminster Police Service. In 1975, Ivan was one of the first pioneers of Asian descent officers to have enlisted with the RCMP. Ivan spent the majority of his policing career as a plain clothes detective / investigator and is well versed and experienced in all facets of Major Crime Investigations. While Ivan was seconded to the Coordinated Law Enforcement Unit, he became a court recognized expert in Asian Gang culture that included homicides, illegal gambling, extortion, human trafficking, counterfeiting and identity theft. Ivan spent many years as a member of the Municipal Integrated Emergency Response Team as a Crisis Negotiator as well as trained in Incident Command.
Ivan has successfully completed a variety of investigative training courses offered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Canadian Police College, Justice Institute of BC and many large urban police agencies in Canada and USA.
Ivan has supervised a variety of successful investigative sections within the Police Service which included Major Crime, Special Operations, Drug Enforcement, Human Resources, and the Marine Unit. Ivan’s interest in boating had directed him towards Marine related fraud and theft activity. He is on the Board of Directors as the treasurer for the Canadian chapter of the International Association of Marine Investigators.
Dr Michael Davis
Dr Michael Davis is a Clinical Forensic Psychologist in private practice and a Research Fellow with the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science at Monash University in Australia. He has presented nationally and internationally on the topics of violence risk assessment, psychopathy, offender profiling, equivocal death, behavioural crime linkage, and other aspects of sexual and violent crime. He has conducted hundreds of risk assessments for the courts and in consultation for area mental health services and government departments. Dr Davis is the Victorian Branch Secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law. He is a member of the Australian Forensic Reference Group (Victoria Police) and regularly provides assistance to the Behavioural Analysis Unit. He has provided behavioural investigative advice to police in several different countries and is the only psychologist in Australia to be elected to membership of the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship (ICIAF). Dr Davis serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Investigative Psychology and Offender Profiling.
Lorna Fadden, Ph.D.
Lorna Fadden, Ph.D. is a forensic linguist who consults in cases where language is evidence. She performs forensic linguistic analysis on documents of questionable authorship, including threats and other anonymous communications for purposes of attribution or sociolinguistic profiling. She also examines spoken or written discourse to clarify intention and meaning, assess competence, and resolve ambiguities.
In 2008, she completed her doctorate in the Department of Linguistics at Simon Fraser University. Her dissertation research on the language of police interviewing focused on discourse and speech properties. She conducts ongoing research on the discourse of police interviews, particularly addressing issues of suspects' competence as well as suspects' and investigators' discourse strategies. Fadden's research also focuses on the linguistic differences between Native and non-Native citizens in their interactions with police.
A current member of the International Association of Forensic Linguistics, and the International Language and Law Association, Dr. Fadden publishes and presents her work nationally and internationally.
Since 2001, she has taught linguistics at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia in the areas of sociolinguistics, syntax, and forensics.
Prior to her work in forensic linguistics, Fadden spent several years in the high tech industry where she provided linguistic expertise in artificial intelligence and natural language processing.
Doug Fisher
Doug has had a very successful 30 year career with the Vancouver Police Department. Graduating from the Justice Institute in 1980 he has worked in the Operations Division all over the City of Vancouver. In 1985, Doug joined the Emergency Response Team as a Constable, was promoted to Corporal, and left as a Team Leader and Sergeant in 1998. In his time with the ERT Doug was a leader through hundreds of situations requiring tactical solutions to extremely volatile situations.
Doug continued to lead successful investigative units as a Supervisor and a Manager with the Vancouver Police Department. These included Surveillance units, Technical Services unit (covert installations and wire taps) Property crime teams, Anti-fencing unit and other specialized investigative groups. Many of these operations focused on anti-counterfeiting, property crime, serial robbery, kidnappings, and home invasions.
Doug is recognized by the International Association of Property Crime Investigators as an expert in the Pawn Industry and in Asset Recovery, and is one of Canada’s leading experts in the fields of Intellectual Property Crime, Counterfeit Investigations and brand protection. He has worked closely with a diversity of businesses to protect their brands, and has led numerous counterfeit investigations which have resulted in successful criminal and civil processes.
Intellectual Property Crime is big business in the 21st century. The theft of Trade Marks or Copyright can ruin large or small business. In this regard, Doug is frequently called upon to lecture and train both the police and private industry, locally and internationally, on the topic of intellectual property crime and its consequences to private industry, the general public, and the economy at large. In the lead up to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Doug represented the VPD on the VANOC Anti-Counterfeiting Committee.
Doug retired from the VPD as a Staff Sergeant in 2009.
Theo Hollamby, Polygraph Examiner
Mr Theo Hollamby has successfully completed the requirements of The Professional Examiner Training Program for Psycho-physiological Detection of Deception by the American International Institute of Polygraph. (Further advanced training courses were completed.)
This qualification, which is internationally accepted, enables him to conduct the necessary interviews and tests that will give scientific results to aid in establishing guilt or innocence. He was a member of the South African Professional Polygraph Association (SAPPA), and is affiliated to the American Polygraph Association (APA) up until his departure from South Africa. Mr. Hollamby is currently still a member in good standing with the British European Polygraph Association (BEPA).
Theo has 20 years’ experience in the South African Police Force, where he attained the position of Detective Inspector. His law enforcement experience with the SAPF includes the Organized Crime Department, Undercover/Covert Investigations, Commercial Cross Border Crime and Crime Syndicate investigation.
Karey Henschel
Karey Henschel has spent the last fourteen years as a sworn member of a municipal policing agency. During her career, she was assigned to the Investigative Services Division as the Strategic Intelligence Analyst with the Organized Crime and Terrorism portfolio. This portfolio included Traditional, Asian, Eastern European, Middle Eastern, First Nations, Street Gang and Outlaw Motorcycle criminal organizations. In this position, Karey was involved in homicide, arson, fraud, firearms, smuggling, extortion, and conspiracy investigations.
Karey holds a B.A. in Social Sciences from McMaster University and has received extensive training in Advanced Intelligence Analysis (C.P.C.), Geographic Profiling Analysis (O.P.P.) and as an Intelligence Officer (O.P.C.). She is experienced and adept at link, time series, commodity flow, toll & pattern, net worth and financial record analysis.
As an Intelligence Analyst, Karey has worked closely with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (C.S.I.S.), the Criminal Intelligence Service of Canada (C.I.S.C.) and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Karey has contributed to the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario (C.I.S.O.) and has been involved in a working group assigned to identify future intelligence priorities at the provincial level.
Taras Hryb
Taras Hryb is a licensed Security Consultant and Private Investigator for Hemispheres Security Investigations Corporation.
He is internationally accredited as a Physical Security Professional (PSP) by ASIS International, is a lifetime member of the Canadian Identification Society, was Forensic Evidence Specialist with the Vancouver Police for approximately 20 yrs and held the rank of Sergeant. His expert opinion pertaining to forensic physical evidence has been accepted in Family, Provincial and Supreme Courts of BC.
Taras’ security consulting focus is Threat and Vulnerability Analysis for physical sites such as facilities, businesses and residences. This analysis forms the foundation upon which effective security is built. The process includes characterizing the current state of your security environment, identifying the capabilities of the threats that you or your business face, assessing the risk they pose and defining effective security improvements to either deter or overcome them. Taras also project manages the implementation and installation of security upgrades for his Clients. His security experience includes government critical infrastructure sites, industrial and biochemical facilities, and executive residences.
Taras has extensive police experience investigating break-ins, robberies, home invasions, workplace theft and violence, all manner of serious assaults and homicides. His private investigation services include forensic investigation for physical evidence such as fingerprints and DNA at incident scenes as well as forensic photography. He has audited forensic fingerprint identifications, investigated internal thefts of high value physical and intellectual assets, reconstructed incidents and taken forensic photographs of client injuries for legal proceedings.

Kris Illingsworth
Kris Illingsworth has 25 years experience in law enforcement including 20 years investigating and analysing major crime cases. Kris retired as a Detective Sergeant of the New South Wales Police Force having acquired extensive experience and specialist skills through investigation and analysis of over one thousand violent crime and threatening communication cases including two high profile, lengthy and complex serial murder investigations: the North Shore Murders and the Backpacker Murders.
Kris is highly experienced at working with crime investigators, forensic investigators, behavioural profilers, geographic profilers, and forensic psychologists and psychiatrists to solve crimes. Kris has been one of only a few Australian police officers to be trained and internationally qualified in Criminal Investigative Analysis, popularly known as Criminal Profiling.
Through the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship, Kris worked in and trained with the FBI Behaviour Analysis Units at Quantico; the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Behavioural Sciences Group; Ontario Provincial Police Behavioural Sciences Section; Florida Department of Law Enforcement; California Bureau of Investigation; and Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence. Kris also conducted research on British profiling methods at the National Crime Faculty (now Centrex) in Great Britain where she worked on cases with British profilers. She is the only Australian Detective to undertake the FBI's formal threat assessment program through the FBI Forensic Linguistics Workshop for Law Enforcement Practitioners and is also one of few Australian police to have been formally trained in US Cold Case review methods.
Kris is a Full Fellow of the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship, and a member of the International Homicide Investigators Association, the International Association of Forensic Linguists, and Australia & New Zealand Forensic Science Society.
Mike Littlejohn
Mike Littlejohn graduated in 1975 with a B.A. degree in History and Psychology from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, N.B. Mike spent 25 years with the RCMP as an operational police officer in a number of postings with extensive experience in both patrol and plainclothes duties, working his way through the ranks from Constable to Sergeant. In 1999, he retired from the RCMP and joined the independent provincial Organized Crime Agency of British Columbia (OCABC) in a variety of roles including Inspector, Team Leader of the investigative Quick Response Team, and Team Leader of the Tactical Surveillance Unit.
Mike is a recognized expert in drug enforcement, undercover operations, source development and handling, surveillance, and Organized Crime investigations. He is an Accepted Expert Witness at the Provincial and Supreme Court levels in marijuana, cocaine, & heroin - their use, terminology, packaging, prices, and trafficking methods.
He has been a trainer/consultant at the Justice Institute of British Columbia’s Police Academy in the fields of drug enforcement, undercover techniques, surveillance, informant development/handling, and Organized Crime. He has also been involved in the development of the Municipal Police Undercover Program in both the training and operational fields, having acted as a Syndicate Leader on both the Level I and Level II training courses and as an undercover operator/cover person on a number of Major and/or Organized Crime investigations.
Dr Matt Logan, PhD
Dr. Matt Logan completed a Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia with a focus on Crisis (Hostage) Negotiation and Major Criminal Conflict Management. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 28 years serving in five communities within British Columbia and a tour of duty in Ottawa and at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. Matt was working as a Psychologist with Correctional Services Canada (CSC) from May, 1999 to November, 2001 where he did Psychological Risk Assessments for the National Parole Board and worked in therapy with predatory sex offenders. He is currently working as a consultant and has joined Dr. Robert Hare in forming HALO – Forensic Behavioral Specialists.
As the first Operational Psychologist in Major Crime, S/Sgt (ret.) Logan has been involved as a consultant to Serious Crime Sections, Undercover Unit, Interview Team, Child Exploitation, and Crisis Negotiation Teams. Psychological Risk and Threat Assessments are provided on suspects in serious crime investigations and Expert Evidence is given in Court on violent and deviant sexual behaviour. An FBI trained hostage negotiator, Dr. Logan is a conference speaker and facilitator specializing in Conflict and Crisis Management, Psychopathy, Risk for Violence, Sexual Predators, and Trauma.
Patricia M. McDowell, CMA, CIA, CFE
Ms. McDowell is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), all in good standing. She had a twenty-five year career with a major international airline, the last fifteen of which was in the Internal Audit department. From her second field audit Ms. McDowell demonstrated an aptitude for identifying and investigating fraud and was used almost exclusively as a forensic auditor for her last ten years at the airline.
After taking early retirement and moving to the west coast, Ms. McDowell spent two years as Senior Manager Internal Audit for a BC based international currency exchange business. She decided to leave after being reminded how much she enjoyed the intellectual exercise of forensic work. For the last year and a half Ms. McDowell has worked as an independent forensic auditor/accountant.
Ms. McDowell has identified and investigated fraud in more than a dozen different countries and while much of it has been employee white collar crime, she has also worked on fraud cases involving agents, customers, suppliers and in one case, construction kickbacks. She has experience in conducting interviews and with her knowledge of risk management and internal controls, has a perfect cover to come into an organization where there are concerns but no hard evidence, ostensibly to conduct a normal internal audit.
Ms. McDowell has been on the board of a local chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors and is currently serving on the board of the Vancouver Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Brad Moore
Brad Moore has been a police officer with the Ontario Provincial Police for the past 22 years. He spent 10 years in the OPP Behavioural Sciences Section as a geographic profiler and manager of the OPP Geographic Profiling Unit. He has prepared geographic profiles and conducted geographic analyses for police departments in Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia. He regularly lectures at police departments and educational institutions in North America and Europe.
During the course of his policing career, Brad has worked general duties at Sebringville Detachment in southwestern Ontario, as a ViCLAS analyst, as manager of the Systems Operations and Technical Support Unit, Information and Technology Services Section, and as team leader of Ontario’s Provincial ViCLAS Centre. Brad is currently one of only nine qualified geographic profilers in the world.
Rick Moss
In 2006, Rick retired as a senior executive from the investment management industry after a 22 year career with the institutional investment management divisions of the Royal Bank of Canada and UBS AG, one of Europe’s largest banks.
With a degree in finance and economics from the University of Alberta, he was responsible for overseeing the portfolios of government, corporate and union pension plan clients across western Canada. The combined market value of these portfolios exceeded $2 billion.
Rick’s responsibilities included working with clients and their consultants in the development and maintenance of investment strategies and policies; introducing clients and consultants to new leading edge investment strategies; overall reporting and regular meetings with clients’ investment committees; and the marketing of investment services to major pension plan and endowment sponsors across western Canada.
Earl Moulton, LLB
Having retired after 28 years of service with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and now with CedarHouse Cybernetics, Earl Moulton brings a wealth of senior management and operational policing experience. Earl attained the rank of Assistant Commissioner and held the position of Commanding Officer, "F" Division (Saskatchewan). With a long-held interest in Internet technologies and cyber-crime issues, Earl has been involved in overt and covert computer investigations since 1986.
A Founder and President of the Society for the Policing of Cyberspace (POLCYB), an internationally recognized network of policing and computer professionals, Earl was also the founder and inaugural co-chair for the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Electronic Crime Committee. These credentials, combined with a law degree and twelve years of Commercial Crime experience, an exceptional resource in today's world of digital commerce.
James Oswald
James Oswald recently retired as a Head Office Claims Examiner with the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) after 23 years of very fulfilling service. Before entering the insurance field, James earned his graduate degree in Criminology from Simon Fraser University. James is an industry expert in investigating, evaluating and negotiating complex, large loss Personal Injury and Family Compensation Act claims. He maintains client relationships through the application of practical, realistic and efficient methodologies based on a career managing cases of the highest risk.
As LGIG's Manager of Insurance Investigations, James uses his expertise to assist insurance firms in gathering the most accurate and current information with the objective of preventing or minimizing loss.
Glenn Woods
Following a long and storied career in a broad range of senior law enforcement roles, more recently as RCMP Director, Behavioural Sciences for the Criminal Profiling, Geographic Profiling, Violent Crime Linkage Analysis System (ViCLAS) , National Sex Offender Registry and Truth Verification programs (Polygraph & Statement Analysis), Glenn is now lending his unique skills and talents to Lions Gate Investigations Group.
The majority of Glenn’s experience over the past 35 years has been in the area of investigating crimes of interpersonal violence. He has been involved either as an investigator or profiler in hundreds of major cases including homicides, sexual assaults, abductions (adults and children), armed robberies, arsons as well as other crimes of interpersonal violence.
In 1999 Glenn was one of two Canadian Profilers invited to an FBI symposium on school shootings where he had an opportunity to participate in the analysis of 18 school shooting incidents including Columbine. He is a co-author of a Threat Assessment Training Guide that is used in training school administrators, counsellors, psychologists and police officers, and is widely viewed as the best training available in this regard.
Glenn has been a regular lecturer at the Canadian Police College and has also guest lectured or presented at the Atlantic Police College, Toronto Police Service College, the Ontario Police College and numerous conferences in Canada, the United States and abroad.
Tracey Young, BA CYC, MSW, RSW
Tracey received her Bachelor of Arts, specializing in Child & Youth Care from the University of Victoria and completed her Masters of Social Work (MSW), specializing in child welfare and mental health through Dalhousie University.
Tracey is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the BC College of Social Workers. She is the president of the Vancouver Sea-to-Sky branch and is the regional Board representative to the BC Association of Social Workers. She also represents BC on the national Children's committee of the Canadian Association of Social Workers. Tracey has been appointed to the new Family Court/Youth Justice committee by Vancouver City Council which is commencing in January 2011. She is also involved in community development and other work with a variety of organizations in BC.
For over two decades Tracey has been working with high-risk/high-need children, youth and adults in the community, in institutional and hospital settings in a variety of roles. She has worked as a residential child and youth care worker, a child protection social worker and a psychiatric social worker in the youth and adult Forensic Psychiatric systems in B.C. Tracey has worked with children, youth and adult clients who have experienced many different mental health and psychiatric conditions, as well as Concurrent disorders. She has also worked clinically with those who have been charged, convicted and found Not Criminally Responsible by account of mental disorder in the most serious of crimes.
Tracey has experience and training as a workplace leader, representative and investigator at regional and provincial levels. She also has developed broad knowledge of legislation, regulations, principles and case law that impact workplace governance and functioning, including occupational safety and health standards, the Employment Standards Act; Workers Compensation Act; BC Labour Relations Code; Human Rights Code of BC; Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act; Level I & II Workers Compensation Act; Disability issues and Discrimination; Duty to Accommodate; Return to Work planning, bullying and harassment in the workplace.

Forensic social work investigations, analysis and reports in the areas of child welfare, family court, custody and access;

Court testimony, investigative work and reports for family, child protection, civil and Forensic Psychiatric systems, including the B.C. Review Board and mental health panels;

Broad knowledge of legislation such as the Criminal Code of Canada; Child, Family and Community Services Act; Family Relations Act and other statutes. She also has experience assisting others in navigating through most court systems and systems of care in BC;

Labour relations and workplace investigations, providing solution-focused reports that aim to mitigate organizational problems and risks;

Advice, support and work with clients to find solutions for dealing with different types of problems such as intra-familial challenges, workplace problems, civil and family litigation;

Research, multi-media and communications work, adult education and professional development training;

Leadership, administration and governance support to board members and leaders.
